"outfront" tonight, an historic blizzard is slamming the northeast as i speak. we're expecting up to 3 inches of snow accumulating an hour, which is incredibly quick. it's been slow coming here to new york. the accumulation will be dramatic and severe. the snow fell the last blizzard in this city was 2011, 20 inches of snow. we'll see if this will set a record overnight. to give you an idea how big this storm is, how many states are affected
and important story. >> a busy night ahead. that's for sure. >> "erin burnett outfront" starts right now. . >>> "outfront" next, we're in mobile, alabama, tonight, where the disabled cruise ship, the "triumph," is set to dock. more than 4,000 people have been stranded at sea for five days on the ship, and tonight, we're going to hear from the passengers, we're going to bring you updates on the horrible conditions that some of them have faced on board. we have finally come to the last act of this drama. let's go "outfront." >>> and good evening, everyone. i'm erin burnett. and "outfront" tonight, in mobile, alabama, we are waiting for more than 4,000 people to arrive, after being stranded on a carnival cruise ship that lost power after an engine fire on sunday. 3,142 passengers and 1,086 crew members have been stuck on the "carnival triumph" for five day. they've had no hot water, they've had limited food, they've had few working toilets. here is the latest. at this moment, we understand that the ship is about 25 miles away from the dock where i'm standing. it's traveling at about six mil
after i dropped him off. >> erin's third grade son bear was in the front hallway of sandy hook elementary school when the shooling began and a teacher saved his life. erin is joining us from washington. erin, it's been almost two months now and there's a lot of people who are still struggling. first of all, just give us a sense of how you and bear and your family are doing right now. >> we are doing as well as can be expected. our entire community is struggling and we will struggle for quite some time. all things considered, we're back to a new normal routine and i'm just trying to move forward. >> erin, can you tell us what it is like to be in that room? we saw that gentleman there very emotional about losing his own child. i can imagine that there's a lot of things you're thinking about and feeling when you're in that room and you hear that day being replayed over and over. >> it's particularly emotional. i don't think there were hardly any of us there with dry eyes and yet we've heard these stories before. so i think the impact on the legislators and those of you at home wat
because it is just a story, and carnival could move on and still be a cruise tall tale. >> erin, back to you. what's the latest out there? >> well, we are waiting here and less than a mile here and as you have heard all of the people on board tell us, they can see the land and that is the big moment, and less than a mile away, and that means it is slowing down. so it could come and bd dock here any time and within the next 30 minutes as soon as that, and could take longer and then another four to five hours to get everybody off of the ship, but the hardest thing is the actual docking, because to give the viewers a sense, it is 200,000 tons and 2 1/2 football fields long and no stabilizer and no brakes. so you can imagine that parking the ship which is what it will do when it dox at -- it docks heret at the mobile port is going to be a dicey situation, and they want to make it right. that is why it is not as quick as you might think and it could take 30 or 90 minutes before people are really able to start getting off of that ship. we are here and waiting. more and more families a
